Our Rector Attends the “Panel on Ottoman Studies in North Macedonia”
The “Ottoman, Our Common Heritage” project coordinated by Fettah Efendi Education and Thought Association in cooperation with the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) has been underway for a year in North Macedonia with the support of Istanbul Medeniyet University. The “Panel on Ottoman Studies in North Macedonia” was held on 10-11 January 2020 as part of the project closing activities.
The first day of the project closing event in Skopje on January 10 started with the seminar by Rector Prof. Dr. Gülfettin Çelik titled “The Tenets of Formation and Transformation of Ottoman Social System”. On the other hand, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Faruk Bal took part in the introduction panel for “State and Economy in the Ottoman Empire”, the book authored by Ottoman economic historian Mehmet Genç and recently translated into Albanian.
On the second day of the project closing events, representatives of the project organizers and supporters delivered their opening speeches. The closing ceremony started with a speech by Sevba Abdula, President of Fettah Efendi Education and Thought Association. In the Panel on Ottoman Studies in North Macedonia, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Faruk Bal made a presentation on ‘An Overall Assessment of the Research on Ottoman Social and Economic History in Turkey’. The seminar ended with certificate presentation to our University and other institutions that contributed to the project.
During his visit to Skopje, Rector Prof. Dr. Gülfettin Çelik also had a meeting with Prof. Dr. Şener Bilal, Vice Rector of International Balkan University, on the possibilities for collaboration between the universities.
