Field trips to Beyoğlu and Üsküdar were organized as part of the "Humanity and Civilization" course, coordinated by the Department of Common Courses at Istanbul Medeniyet University. Guided by Dr. Aykut Nasip Kelebek, the tours took students to historically significant sites in Beyoğlu and Üsküdar, providing them with information about the architectural and cultural importance of these areas.
During the Beyoğlu tour on December 2, 2025, Dr. Aykut Nasip Kelebek shared information about the history of Beyoğlu and its place in Turkish modernization. The tour began with information about Taksim Mosque and the Republic Monument, followed by visits to Beyoğlu's historic inns, passages, and apartment buildings. The tour, which also included a visit to the Galata Mevlevihanesi and an introduction to the important tombs inside, ended in front of the Galata Tower.
During the tour of Üsküdar on December 16, 2025, information was provided specifically about the charitable activities of female sultans in Üsküdar during the Ottoman period. The tour included visits to the Mihrimah Mosque, Şemsi Ahmet Paşa Mosque, Rum Mehmet Paşa Mosque, Kaptanpaşa Mosque, Aziz Mahmud Hüdai Complex, and Yeni Valide Mosque in Üsküdar. The tour, which explained Üsküdar's place in Ottoman history and its importance in terms of today's Istanbul, gave students a new awareness of Üsküdar's history.
The tours of Beyoğlu and Üsküdar, where art history, political history, and literature intertwine, provided our students with the opportunity to learn about Istanbul through exploration.
