Inclusive Learning Activities were Held within the Scope of ToMIMEUs Erasmus KA2 Project

Towards a Multisensory and Inclusive Museum for Individuals with Sensory Disabilities (ToMiMEUs), for which our University is a project partner, (code 2019-1-RO01-KA202-063245), European Union, Erasmus as part of the KA2 project, inclusive learning experiences (IO5) were held at the Istanbul Railway Museum on March 27, 2022.

The activity named “Let's find the secret code in the museum!” was held with the participation of children between the ages of 9 and 16 with six hearing impaired children, multiple and visually impaired children, and two typically developing children.

Accompanied by museum personnel trained within the scope of the project, the children first got to know the museum. Afterwards, “Let's find the secret code in the museum!” named activity developed by project researcher Dr. Ayşe Tuğba Öner, was applied. Within the scope of the activity, the children followed the clues and found the cards hidden in the museum. By deciphering the secret code on each card, the children tried to find all the cards. The children who found all the cards and solved the codes completed the activity. Sworn Sign Language Translator and Coda Ayşe Köksal Alamehmet accompanied the children throughout the whole process from the first moment they came to the museum.

Our University Project Coordinator Dr. Emine Ayyıldız, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özcan Erkan Akgün, researcher Dr. Ayşe Tuğba Öner and researcher Res. Assis. H. Sümeyra Bilici Albayrak held interviews with the children and their parents. The event process was completed after the evaluation part where both parents and children expressed their gratification.
