IMU Hosts the Pediatric Motility Disorders Symposium

“The Pediatric Motility Disorders Symposium” hosted by our University was held in Aşık Paşa Conference Hall in our South Campus on August 28-29, 2019. The symposium brought together distinguished scientists from home and abroad.

Pediatric motility disorders include a variety of diseases commonly observed in pediatric gastroenterology and pediatric surgery in daily practice. During the two-day symposium, current approaches in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of motility disorders of the upper and lower digestive systems were discussed in detail by specialists from a multidisciplinary perspective. The symposium aimed to take another step in creating a common language among specialists and to identify new scientific and clinical strategies.

The symposium was jointly organized by the Turkish Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (TÇGHBD) and the Turkish Society of Pediatric Surgery (TÇCD). The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Ayşe Selimoğlu, President of TÇGHBD and Symposium Chair, Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Ulukaya Durakbaşa, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery of IMU Faculty of Medicine and Symposium Chair, Prof. Dr. Orkan Ergün, President of TÇCD, and Prof. Dr. Gürhan Baş, Chief Physician of IMU Göztepe Training and Research Hospital.

Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Yaşar Bülbül delivered the final opening speech in which he greeted all the participants and expressed his wish that the symposium would be fruitful. Highlighting our University’s mission by saying “Our University was founded in 2010 in order to build Turkey’s social future”, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Bülbül underlined the fact that socialization is impossible without health and Turkey needs to reinforce its human infrastructure. Our Vice-Rector noted that we always take great pleasure in supporting such significant events to contribute to our children’s health.

The two-day symposium included a total of eleven sessions and allowed specialists to share their expertise and experiences through case presentations.
