Applications are now open for the “Online Parent Education to Support Early Literacy Skills in Children with Visual Impairments (GEÇEE)” project, conducted by Istanbul Medeniyet University.
Prepared in collaboration with Istanbul Medeniyet University, the Turkish Association of the Visually Impaired (TURGED), the Parıltı Association for Supporting Children with Visual Impairments, and the Inclusive and Accessible Living Association (ERYADER), the project has been registered as Social Responsibility Project No. 2026-SSP-002. This training program, scheduled to begin in March and last for 10 weeks, aims to support parents of children aged 4-6 who are affected by visual impairment.
Dr. Damla Işıtan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education, is leading the project, while the research team includes Dr. M. As part of the training curriculum, parents will receive free training on interactive book reading strategies, organizing the home environment for early literacy, tactile awareness and Braille reading and writing preparation skills, and creating literacy opportunities through daily routines and games.
The program will be held online for one hour once a week, with the day and time of the training to be decided together with the participants. Parents who complete the training regularly will receive participation certificates. Applications for the program can be made via the QR code on the posters or the relevant application links.
