"A Sapling, A Civilization" Event Held

09.01.2026

The "One Sapling, One Civilization" event, organized by our Faculty of Education Sciences in line with a sustainable campus vision and in collaboration with the General Directorate of Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, was held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Central Dining Hall Building Tree Area.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Gülfettin Çelik, our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yaşar Bülbül, and our students participated in this meaningful event.

The event began with welcoming speeches by our Rector Prof. Dr. Gülfettin Çelik after planting saplings. Stating that the connection with nature is not only an environmental activity but also a human responsibility, our Rector said, "This event beautifully expresses humanity's obligation to life and its connection to life. A job, a planted tree, actually begins in life. Growing a tree from childhood requires labor, ability, and the opportunity to address life as a whole, but unfortunately, this is a dilemma for modern man. There are 16 million people here, and we don't even have the opportunity to meet a tree."

The 20 linden and 10 purple plum saplings planted during the event were provided as part of a project prepared by Merve Kılıçaslan and Elif Oral, students of Classroom Teaching, under the leadership of Associate Professor Zehra Kılıç, within the scope of the "Community Service Applications" course.

Beyond being a physical tree planting effort, the project fostered social awareness about the environment among university youth and ended with a message that each individual should take responsibility for nature and adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
